Nearly a decade of Manufacturing 4.0 has taught us one key thing. Whatever advanced digital strategies and technologies manufacturers adopt to deliver more competitive value by 2030 – AI, digital twins, VR/AR, blockchain, digitally powered customer experiences, or others – success in a digital era ultimately depends on a single key foundation: data.
Data powers all the advanced technology tools we use. It redefines cultures, work, and organizational structures. It fuels creative innovation and improvement among the workforce. It opens opportunities for new business models and revenue streams. It demands new approaches to leadership. And now, data is creating entirely new ecosystems across partners and customers that are transforming the future of the entire manufacturing industry.
Manufacturing in 2030: The Coming Data Value Revolution is a two-day event that aims to help manufacturers envision what a data-driven manufacturing industry might look like by 2030. You’ll be able to better plan a longer-term future and identify new strategies to enhance productivity, value, and competitiveness with precision and confidence.
This event will feature three key areas of focus: Data Value, People and Process, and Technology.
This event is the next progression in the Manufacturing Leadership Council’s Manufacturing in 2030 Project that will not just enable manufacturers to imagine a better future, but to bring it to reality.
Please note that agenda is continuously updated as information becomes available and is set to Central Time (CST).

The great promise of Manufacturing 4.0 has been that, as manufacturing companies increasingly connect more physical objects and people, they would be able to gain important operational and business insights from the data generated from those connections. But as data volumes grow, are manufacturers well organized around the opportunity?
According to the IDC Global DataSphere, the amount of data generated is growing at over 27% per year, reaching 106 exabytes in 2022 (an exabyte is one billion gigabytes). In the manufacturing industry, unlocking the value in this data has been at the heart of digital transformation efforts and the source of competitive advantage. In this presentation, Bob will draw from IDC’s research on digital maturity and the future of enterprise intelligence to show how manufacturing firms are enabling new business models through enhanced customer experience and new operating models through capturing the economies of intelligence.
Data monetization is about creating measurable value streams from data. How will things change in the future when data is generated faster than value can be realized or when models generate data not directly tied to physical products?
Data sharing initiatives are cropping up around the world and taking both horizontal and vertical industry forms such as in pharma and in automotive. Most prominent are the Manufacturing-X, Gaia-X, and Catena-X initiatives. The underlying trend that is driving their formation is the need for companies and their supplier and partners to share and use data in a way that benefits all. This session will explain what these ecosystems are, their goals, and the challenges they face in establishing trust among partners as well governance and technical issues inherent with data sharing.
This follow-up to the Rise of Data Ecosystems session will bring together key observers of the ecosystem trend from industry who will share their thoughts about the viability of emerging ecosystems and how important they will be for manufacturers to participate in in the future and what it will take to be successful to do so.

Data-driven innovation can reduce uncertainty, improve risk management, enhance creativity, and accelerate the overall innovation process. But what happens when data is so prevalent that AI can create new hypotheses that humans can’t see on their own? What does AI-augmented creativity look like in the innovation space?
With the rapid growth of AI-driven solutions, there is already the introduction of new job roles that didn’t exist even one year ago – positions like Prompt Engineer and Data/AI Ethicist. So how can companies prepare for whatever comes next around training, recruiting, and organizational flexibility?
What is the impact of new, young, data-savvy leaders moving from MLC’s Next-Generation Leaders to industry business leaders by 2030? As they bring in new experiences, what will leadership look like for them and how will their experiences impact their organizations’ expectations?
Today we talk about data-driven decision making and data-driven culture. What does the future look like when AI systems and chatbots and factory robots are integrated into the organization? What does it look like when data and AI are as important as the people on our teams? Does AI have a place in the diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace?
There is a tremendous focus today on large language AI models such as ChatGPT and the potential they have to change the way we work. How will AI help improve the way humans work by enhancing and augmenting our abilities as individuals and as groups – all while driving more opportunities for people rather than replacing them?
Moderator: Jeff Puma, Content Director, Manufacturing Leadership Council
Today many still live in a two-dimensional world of data, with charts, graphs, reports, videos, etc. – that only become multi-dimensional through interaction. What happens when the digital and physical worlds combine to reimagine the preconceived data capabilities? Will it change our notion of digital transformation?
Similar to AI-driven LLM, the Industrial Metaverse is also moving through the hype cycle. Where will we be in 2030? Will the Industrial Metaverse integrate with traditional lean thinking and bring Metaverse-enabled gemba walks and kaizens to shrink the distances between teams?

The future should be scary, but not overwhelming. At the same time, it needs to push our thinking beyond our current comfort zone. The future we describe should provide excitement and direction for everyone, not limited only to large, multinational enterprises.
Based on what we have heard, we will discuss two topics:
Manufacturing in 2030 is not designed for those who are comfortable with the status quo. Join us in Nashville for an event like no other.
Our high-caliber speaker lineup will bring you the insight and inspiration you need for moving your business forward. Check back as speakers are added to the program.
